Its popularity will undoubtedly grow, mainly due to environmental considerations and the accessibility of deposits for extraction. The most common reason for launch of underground dimension stone mining is demand for some stone materials which commonly can not be obtained from opencast mining. An important aspect of such operation is guaranteed long-term geomechanical stability of post-mining voids. In the paper, there is presented assessment of possibilities and purposefulness of underground extraction for 19 dimension stone deposits located in the Sudetes and in the Świętokrzyskie Mountains. As a result of multi-criteria assessment taking into account geological, resource, mining, environmental and economic factors, four deposits were selected for detailed analysis: Wola Morawicka Jurassic limestone deposit, Szewce Devonian limestone deposit, Zygmuntówka Permian carbonate conglomerate – all in the Świętokrzyskie Mountains, as well as Radków Cretaceous sandstone deposit in the Sudetes. In each case, some basic assumptions on market, production and deposit development, as well as estimated level of capital investments and operation costs, were adopted. Unfortunately, with such assumptions, net present value of each analyzed project, established by discounted cash flow method, was distinctly negative. The most promising for underground extraction are Radków sandstone deposit and Wola Morawicka limestone deposit, provided growth of blocks’ prices by min. 20% and/or significant increase of blocks’ sales. %A Galos, Krzysztof %A Guzik, Katarzyna %A Stachowiak, Andrzej %P 23-36 %R 10.5277/mscma1622303 %U https://doi.org/10.5277/mscma1622303
